Intestinal absorption of vitamin B6. I. Pyridoxol uptake by rat intestinal tissue.

چکیده
The uptake of 3H-pyridoxol by everted intestinal rings of the rat was studied mainly at concentrations of 0.1-4ƒÊM of the vitamin in the medium. Incubation of the tissue at 37•Ž for 60 min in Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate medium containing glucose and labelled pyridoxol resulted in intracellular accumulation of the labelled compounds. The total intracellular concentration of the compounds after the incubation was always higher than the extracellular concentration, and this accumu lation was especially appreciable at relatively low external concentra tions of the 3H-vitamin. The uptake under the same conditions was

A carrier-mediated mechanism for pyridoxine uptake by human intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cells: regulation by a PKA-mediated pathway.
Vitamin B6 is essential for cellular functions and growth due to its involvement in important metabolic reactions. Humans and other mammals cannot synthesize vitamin B6 and thus must obtain this micronutrient from exogenous sources via intestinal absorption. The intestine, therefore, plays a central role in maintaining and regulating normal vitamin B6 homeostasis. Due to the water-soluble natur...

The effect of partial pancreatectomy (80-90%) on vitamin B(12) absorption was studied in the rat. The absorption of 5 ng of (57)Co-labeled vitamin B(12) was significantly reduced from 70 +/-2.5% (mean +/-SE) in control and sham-operated rats to 32 +/-2.6% in partially pancreatectomized rats. Hog pancreatic extract (0.17 g/kg) improved vitamin B(12) absorption from 30.0 to 61.0% in partially pan...
متن کاملIntestinal absorption of gamma-tocotrienol is mediated by Niemann-Pick C1-like 1: in situ rat intestinal perfusion studies.
gamma-Tocotrienol (gamma-T3) is a member of the vitamin E family that displays potent anticancer activity and other therapeutic benefits. The objective of this study was to evaluate gamma-T3 intestinal uptake and metabolism using the in situ rat intestinal perfusion model. Isolated segments of rat jejunum and ileum were perfused with gamma-T3 solution, and measurements were made as a function o...
متن کاملAge-dependent regulation of rat intestinal type IIb sodium-phosphate cotransporter by 1,25-(OH)(2) vitamin D(3).
The current studies were designed to characterize type IIb sodium-inorganic phosphate (P(i)) cotransporter (NaP(i)-IIb) expression and to assess the effect of 1,25-(OH)(2) vitamin D(3) on NaP(i)-IIb gene expression during rat ontogeny. Sodium-dependent P(i) absorption by intestinal brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMVs) decreased with age, and NaP(i)-IIb gene expression also decreased proportio...
متن کاملMolecular mechanism of the intestinal biotin transport process.
Previous studies have characterized different aspects of the cellular/membrane mechanism and regulation of the intestinal uptake process of the water-soluble vitamin biotin. Little, however, is known about the molecular mechanisms of the uptake process. In this study, we have identified a cDNA from rat small intestine that appears to be involved in biotin transport. The open reading frame of th...
